Fairfield Inn Kansas City Downtown/Union Hill

We had not stayed here in a while, but heard they were doing updates. They are, and it is looking great! The staff is very kind and helpful. I especially appreciated Madison, who was working the first evening. We were in town for a surgery and needed an extra night. She took care of that right away for us. The location to Children's Mercy is fantastic. Thank you for making our stay pleasant.

During my stay, the hotel was being renovated. It seemed to be mostly done. The room was very clean and comfy. I couldn't put the stopper down in the sink, so I had to line it to be able to rinse my contact lenses. The elevator was intermittently working (I chalked it up to the renovations). The people at the desk were very nice and helpful. The hotel is located near the WWI Museum and the Federal Reserve. Overall, a very nice stay.

After reviewing a lot of hotels in Kansas City, I chose the Fairfield Inn for several reasons: it got good reviews both here and on Google, I was able to use points to help make the trip less expensive, and parking here ($20/night) was more reasonable than other hotels that I considered. We arrived at the Fairfield Inn after a late dinner (and a flight that landed around 7 pm). Because of a rental car snafu, I got a Dodge Ram truck rather than the Toyota Corolla (or similar) that I reserved. I was immediately thankful that the parking lot at the Fairfield Inn was open air, as the truck was too big to fit through their portico. Plenty of space for vehicles with easy in and out. We reserved a 2-queen room and got one on the 4th floor. The room was spacious and clean. Comfortable beds and great AC. Plenty of room for us and our son. The sink is outside the bathroom (which contains the shower/tub and toilet. Great for families trying to get ready at the same time. Breakfast was pretty good. They had a mix of cereal (hot and cold), make your own waffles, bread, breakfast pastries, and hot items (pre-made omelets and fried eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon/ham/sausage, and biscuits and gravy. Overall, I would choose to stay at the Fairfield Inn again. Signs in the lobby talk about an upcoming reservation, so I would be very interested in the renovated rooms. Nothing wrong with the current rooms per say, but they are showing a bit of wear around the edges. Eventually, the hotel will be served by the KC Streetcar, but it currently does not come down Main Street that far. We choose not to drive to Union Station to ride it into downtown, driving instead.

The hotel was comfortable and clean. We were there with a volleyball team for the Nationals tournament. I found it irritating that although the hotel was participating in a “stay and play” tournament package, the hotel refused to adjust and open the breakfast early. This tournament starts at 8am, and the girls have to be on the court at 7, so they went without breakfast most days. If you participate in the stay and play, then accommodate the play part by opening the breakfast room early enough for the players to eat.
